How the codes work
On a full product code, the part before the hyphen is the shape, and the part after is the pattern. For example, 223-U3356 is shape 223 (a dinner plate) in pattern U3356 (Hummingbird). Each factory numbers its shapes differently, so the shape code alone often tells you the maker.

Frequently asked
What does “Unikat” mean?
Unikat means “unique”. Standard patterns are applied with hand-cut sponges to a set design. Unikat pieces are painted freehand by a single artist, who signs the base. No two Unikat pieces are ever identical, and they command higher prices.
Why do two pieces in the same pattern look slightly different?
Because every piece is hand-painted. Sponge placement, brushwork and glaze pooling vary between pieces and between painters. Slight variation is a sign of authenticity, not a defect.
How can I tell authentic Bolesławiec pottery from an imitation?
Authentic pieces are stamped on the base with the factory mark and are marked “Made in Poland”. They are high-fired stoneware — heavy for their size, with a hard, chip-resistant glaze. Unmarked pieces, or pieces marked only with a country of origin and no factory stamp or pattern code, are usually imitations.
